Interview with Miss Jenny

Hi, my name is Michelle and I am the newest member of the Sherwood Dance staff. I thought it would be fun to get to know the instructors with a monthly spotlight Q and A style chat. Before we get to that however, here is a little bit about me. I am a mom of two 2 teenagers and a wife to my husband of 18 years. My daughter is 15 and danced from the age of 5 until she was 13. Her favorite classes were ballet and Jazz. She now plays varsity lacrosse and basketball. My son is 13 and plays basketball and baseball. We have a dog named Lucy and a cat named Mustachio. A few things I enjoy doing are; paddle boarding, camping, and spending time with friends and family. I’m so excited to be part of this dance family and look forward to getting to know you all. The Interview

This month, I’m getting to know dance teacher Jenny Mason. Jenny has been teaching dance at Sherwood Dance Academy for 10 years. She started at SDA in September 2011. In 2013, Jenny started Showstoppers with two groups; Mini’s and Jr’s, and has grown the program into what it is today. Keep reading to learn more about Miss Jenny. 

Question: How old were you when you started dancing? 
Miss Jenny: I started dancing when I was around 3 years old. 

Question: How did you get started in dance? 
Miss Jenny: My mom always wanted to dance, so as soon as I was old enough she signed me up. 

Question: How long have you been teaching dance? 
Miss Jenny: I have been teaching dance for 21 years. I started as an assistant, but when my instructor got pregnant, my studio asked me to step up and help teach the class.

Question: What is your favorite style of dance? 
Miss Jenny: I would have to say Lyrical/Acro is my favorite.

Question: Do you have any kids?
Miss Jenny: I have three daughters, who have all danced at SDA - Taylor, Peyton, and Kyndall.

Question: What do you love to do with your family?
Miss Jenny: We love to travel. I think Disney World is one of our favorite places!

Question: What is your favorite food? 
Miss Jenny: Italian food 

Question: Do you have any pets? 
Miss Jenny: I have three dogs; Nacho, Dash, and Hazel. 

Question: What is your favorite season? 
Miss Jenny: Summer, I love being outside. 

Question: Do you have a favorite fall scent? Food? 
Miss Jenny: Pumpkin everything!!!! Except pumpkin pie. I stock up on all my pumpkin favorites every fall, so I can continue to have pumpkin flavor throughout the year.

Question: What is your favorite holiday? 
Miss Jenny: Definitely Christmas! I love spending time with family. Time seems to slow down and I just love the overall vibe of the season. 

Understanding this dog would be great!

Question: Would you rather be able to talk to land animals or animals that live under water?
Miss Jenny: Land animals so I can understand my dogs. 

Question: Would you rather your only mode of transportation be a donkey or a giraffe?
Miss Jenny: Donkey, I feel like they’d be easier to climb onto.
