October Monthly Memo

Happy October!!! My favorite season is Fall and my favorite month is October. I love the changing of the seasons and I find nothing is quite as dramatic and gorgeous as all the leaves changing color and the smell of rain in the morning. My family welcomed October by going to the Lee Farms pumpkin patch (a family tradition)… when it was 86 degrees and sunny… come on! Where’s my favorite Fall?!

In the dance studio world, our year starts in the Fall. So right now is a great time to set our goals for the dance year and become clear on how to achieve those goals. Our mission at SDA is Empowering Students and Community Through Dance and this month our focus is on Empowering Through Goal Setting! Goal setting is a powerful tool for achieving your dreams and it’s never too young to start 💜

Updated Dress Code:

Ballet:

Leotard, tights or solid colored leggings, and ballet shoes. Hair in a bun, braid or ponytail.

Acro, Jazz, Tap:

A leotard or a form fitting top, leggings or form fitting shorts, and appropriate footwear. Hair in a low bun, braid, or ponytail.

HipHop:

Clothing that is easy to move in. Baggy clothing may be worn, but form fitting top should be underneath. Hair pulled away from face.

For all dancers:

  • No bra tops

  • No jewelry (earing studs are okay)

  • No clothing that distracts you from dancing full out

Come prepared to class!

Before entering the classroom, make sure your dancer is appropriately dressed, hair is up, and they’ve used the restroom. We prefer dancers to be a few minutes late but fully prepared for class than being on time but not properly dressed or prepared.

If you have any questions about what your dancer should be wearing, reach out to the office at hello@sherwooddance.com.

October Save the Dates:

Dress Up Week - October 24th-29th

The last full week of October is Dress Up Week at SDA! Our dancers can wear their favorite dress up clothes or costume to dance class. Just make sure what they are wearing still allows them to dance (a long princess gown isn’t the best costume for an Acro class). Costumed dancers can drop by the office for some trick-or-treat goodies!

Studio Closed for Halloween - October 31st

We want our dancers to enjoy trick-or-treating if they want to and we want our staff to enjoy trick-or-treating with their families. So the studio is closed for all classes on Halloween!
