December 2024 Monthly Memo
Can you believe it’s already December? It seems like our Dance Season just started! The studio is buzzing with excitement for our first studio-wide performance of the year. Our Winter Showcase Fundraiser! Click that link to make sure you have all the information you need.
Our mission at SDA is Empowering Students and Community Through Dance and this month our focus is on Empowering Through Collective Cause! Working together, we can each make a small contribution that can make a big difference. We also believe a strong community makes us stronger as individuals 💜
We encourage volunteering, participation, and engagement with the community. In fulfilling our mission and values, SDA plans intentional ways we can support our community. In September we started a used costume sale, with costumes donated by our SDA family. All the proceeds went to our scholarship fund. We made a total of $397!
Watch for our Collective Cause worksheet this month. Have your dancer complete the worksheet and bring it to the office for a chance to pick a prize out of our treasure box!
The Dance Season Continues!
December 7th the studio is closed for regular classes - we’ll be at Newberg High School for our Winter Showcases! We then continue for one more week of class December 9th-14th. We are closed December 15th-January 1st. We resume classes on Thursday, January 2nd. All enrollments continue through June 2025, when we have our Recital on June 14th. No need to do anything unless you want to make a change in your enrollment!
As soon as we return it will be an exciting 5.5 months, packed with choreography, costuming, recital photos, and practice practice practice. We ask that all of our students make attendance a priority to allow them to feel confident and capable come recital day. Working as a team with their classmates, good attendance is also important for the entire class. If your dancer misses three or more classes between March and June OR two or more classes in a row, they will be put on choreography probation. We will connect you with your dancer’s instructor to find resolution.
Additionally we ask that you hold off on family vacations that would impact your dancer’s class in May and June (through Recital Day). We appreciate your best efforts to help make the recital a huge success for all our dancers!
Upcoming Camp
Our 4-8 year old dancers will have such a blast at our Frozen Camp! Be sure to click the buttons below to check it out and enroll. The camp is 2:00-4:30pm on Saturday, December 14th.
Inclement Weather Policy & Closures:
SDA follows the Sherwood School District (in Washington County) weather related closures. If SSD is closed due to weather, so are we. If SSD has a late start due to weather, studio classes starting before 12pm will be cancelled. You will be contacted by email or text message if class is cancelled.
Closures could also happen because of other unforeseen events, such as wildfires and power outages that make holding class at the studio impossible or unsafe.
All my best,
Liana MacFarlane
