May Monthly Memo
Staying Informed
Can you believe we’re just 6.5 weeks away from Recital Day?! That means there is a lot going on this month, so please read carefully through all the information and make sure you’re up to date with recital information. If you have any questions about recital, first check out our Recital 2024 page. The password is in the email linking to this blog post. If you don’t see your question answered there, don’t hesitate to ask by emailing hello@sherwooddance.com or drop by the office. We want you to be informed and feel confident about what will happen at dress rehearsals and recital.
Connecting
Our mission at SDA is Empowering Students and Community Through Dance and this month our focus is on Connecting with Others! Connecting with others is an essential part of human existence, and it is one of the most important skills we can develop. It is the basis for building meaningful relationships, creating a sense of community, and finding support and inspiration. Connecting with others requires us to be open, empathetic, and willing to engage with those around us.
Watch for our Connecting with Others worksheet this month. Have your dancer complete the worksheet and bring it to the office for a chance to pick a prize out of our treasure box!
The Final Countdown to Recital
Please make attendance a priority in these final weeks of the Dance Season. This helps our dancers feel confident and capable come recital day! Working as a team with classmates, good attendance is also important for the entire class.
Recital Tickets
Recital tickets go on sale today! As part of your inclusive tuition, each dancer gets 1 ticket (per performing classes) for their family to use that’s already been paid for through tuition. Be sure to drop by the office to pick yours up. Check the Recital Page for more details about tickets and pricing!
Final Makeup Lessons
If anyone has remaining makeup lessons to use (if you miss, you’re allowed x4 per year per class), they need to be done during the month of May. We do no allow makeup lessons during June, as all our classes will be focused on their recital routines.
Dress Rehearsals
Dress rehearsal schedule will be released by the end of this week! Dress rehearsals are at Newberg High School between 4-9pm Monday through Thursday, June 12th-15th. Rehearsals are done in costume. Please account for rush hour traffic traveling to/through Newberg. The studio is closed for classes the entire week of June 12th.
Parent Appreciation Week: May 6th-11th
We appreciate all the parents at SDA for helping foster the art of dance in their family. At SDA we call the adults in our dancer's lives their 'grownup', because a 'parent' can come in many forms - moms, dads, step-parents, grandparents, foster parents, aunts, uncles, guardians, and nannies. Thank you grownups for being an important part of our SDA Family! Drop by the office May 6th-11th for a special treat and gift from us to you. 💜
Disney Week: May 13th-18th
Dancers have voted for the themed week they want and Disney Week won by a landslide! So May 13th-18th dancer’s can dress up as their favorite Disney character. Just make sure costumes are still dance appropriate.
Photos
We have all of our classes either completed or scheduled for photos! It has been such a treat to see all our dancers in their costumes, looking fantastic and excited. I know everyone looks forward to seeing their pictures and with Mother’s Day and Father’s Day around the corner, like to use them as gifts. Keep in mind that turn around time is about 3-4 weeks right now and editing happens in order of the photo sessions.
All my best,
Liana MacFarlane
