September Monthly Memo

Time of transitions

I’m writing this as my kiddo is attending his first day of Kindergarten and I’m reflecting on new beginnings (I definitely shed some tears as the bus drove off with him).

Here we are gearing up for the beginning of the new Dance Season and I can’t wait to share this journey with you. I feel so much pride and excitement as we fill the studio with dancers every September. I love watching our new littlest dancers bravely enter the dance room for the first time. I also find contentment in seeing our older dancers back in the halls waiting for class, comfortable and familiar, like they’re at a second home.

In this time of transition, you’ll notice new SDA branding (you can now get SDA apparel with our new logo on it in the office!), new ways to get involved, and new changes to staff:

  • Along with teaching her classes, Miss Anna is joining Michelle and I in the office to help care for the studio.

  • Miss Christina is joining us again after a year away.

  • Miss Brynn is joining us again after a couple of years away.

  • Miss Natalia is joining the SDA team teaching Ballet.

You’ll also see all the same staff you know and love, continuing to do what they do best - sharing their creativity, passion, and knowledge with our dancers.

Summer coming to a close

We had an incredible Summer and the biggest Summer Showcase turnout we’ve ever had. It was a truly amazing day! As one mom told me, this event is so special because it’s the one time a year that our entire dance family is together at the same time.

The start of the 2022-23 Dance Season

Classes begin on Wednesday, September 7th. At your first class, be sure to get your new SDA folder. It’s complete with some great information, our studio calendar to hang on the fridge, our SDA manifesto, and our new SDA Values Workbook. Dancers who complete the workbook will be a part of a special surprise!

Our mission at SDA is Empowering Students and Community Through Dance. The truth is, you can't empower someone else. But you can offer the knowledge, opportunity, and resources, so they can empower themselves. Join us each month as we focus on different aspects of empowerment and explore the many ways for you to empower yourself and your community.

This month our focus is on Acts of Kindness! Decide to be kind and show it through your actions 💜

Save the date: Bring a Friend Week

September 26th-October 1st is Bring a Friend Week at SDA! We love dancing and we love it even more when we can share it with friends. Friends can be real or stuffed. If you are planning to bring a real friend, shoot us an email at hello@sherwooddance.com with contact information for your friend’s grownup. If your class is full, please double check with the office or your instructor to see if we can fit extra students. We look forward to dancing with our friends!

All my best,
Liana MacFarlane
