September Monthly Memo

Transitions

Hello Dance Family!

September is often a time of transition. Our kiddos are going back to school (or starting school for the first time!) and the season starts to change as the air cools and a good Oregon rain is welcome after the Summer heat.

This time of transition is no different at SDA. Here we are gearing up for the beginning of the new Dance Season and I can’t wait to share this journey with you. I feel pride and excitement as we fill the studio with dancers every September. I love watching our new littlest dancers bravely enter the dance room for the first time. I also find contentment in seeing our older dancers back in the halls waiting for class, comfortable and familiar, like they’re at a second home.

We have some incredible changes to our SDA Team. We’ve hired three new Junior Instructors! In the ultimate embodiment of our mission, Ayla, Kallie, and Mikayla, have been dancing at the studio for years and gone through our Empowered Leaders Assistant Teaching program. They are learning to lead with empathy and kindness. They each thrive on personal growth, are comfortable taking charge, and love to teach, play and foster creativity with our younger dancers. You will see how, under the mentorship of our Senior SDA Team, these dancers are working hard to make their dreams come true and inspire the next generation.

Other Transitions for SDA:

  • Welcoming back Madeline (Miss Maddie!) to the team after a few years away

  • Our new office space - the last door on the right before the restrooms. Come say hi and take a look!

  • New exciting ways to get involved to help the SDA mission come to life. Stay tuned 💜

The start of the 2023-24 Dance Season

Classes begin on Friday, September 8th. At your first class, be sure to get your new SDA folder. It’s complete with some great information, our studio calendar to hang on the fridge, and our SDA manifesto.

Our mission at SDA is Empowering Students and Community Through Dance. The truth is, you can't empower someone else. But you can offer the knowledge, opportunity, and resources, so they can empower themselves. Join us each month as we focus on different aspects of empowerment and explore the many ways for you to empower yourself and your community.

This month our focus is on Acts of Kindness! Decide to be kind and show it through your actions 💜

Save the date: Bring a Friend Week

September 25th-30th is Bring a Friend Week at SDA! We love dancing and we love it even more when we can share it with friends. Friends can be real or stuffed. If you are planning to bring a real friend, shoot us an email at hello@sherwooddance.com with contact information for your friend’s grownup. If your class is full, please double check with the office or your instructor to see if we can fit extra students. We look forward to dancing with our friends!

All my best,
Liana MacFarlane
